N is for… Naturists

“Clothing is optional from 6pm”, the receptionist announced uncomfortably as my amazing friend Tori and I checked in for our first ever Naturist weekend. We were staying in a ‘themed waterpark’ near Stoke-on-Trent and were both crippled with nerves. It took us an entire bottle of wine before we had the courage to de-robe in front of each other for the first time; an awkward platonic strip tease against the backdrop of our nautical themed hotel room, complete with bunk beds and Spongebob Squarepants welcome packs. After scouting the corridor for willies through the peephole to ensure we weren’t the only naked ones, we hit jackpot and mustered up the courage to venture out at precisely 6:03pm. We headed straight down to the waterpark in the basement of the hotel, sharing the lift with an older naked couple who were completely at ease. Wearing only a smile and carrying our compulsory towels (first rule of naturism!) we made small talk with our fellow naked travellers and tried to ignore the…

Social nudity can promote catharsis and better body image

Dallas Nudist Examiner posted this article about the way clothes free living can improve body image. Do you hate the way you look? If so, you aren’t alone. According to researchers, more of us than ever, women especially, dislike the way we look. According to a survey that Ann Kearney-Cooke, PhD, a Cincinnati psychologist who specializes in body image helped Glamour magazine put together, “on average, women have 13 negative body thoughts a day, almost one for every waking hour.” 97-percent of the women surveyed admitted to having at least one “I hate my body” moment each day.” Read more Related articles Mormon Women Bare More Than Just Their Testimonies (salon.com)

Educating Julie Movie Review

The 1984 movie Educating Julie tells the story of a university student given the assignment to write a paper on nudity in the 80s. It follows the experience of Julie and her reluctant boyfriend Steve as they explore the clothes free lifestyle. The movie holds together quite well as we observe Julie’s struggle with her body image as well as how to get the information she needs for her assignment. After an initial visit to a nudist camp Julie and Steve divide the research with Steve taking the seamy strip club side of things and Julie focusing on her growing interest in naturism.

VEGANISM IS THE NATURISM OF THE MATRIARCHY

“A dreamer demands the impossible.  An idealist demands the impractical.” – Marilyn Vos Savant This has not been the easiest blog post for me to be writing, but it has to be written. It started off with my 100 Things To Do In A Year list, which was to enable me to stretch my comfort zones with doing a number of things I normally wouldn’t do to empower me to become a better and successful person. 2013 has no doubt been a great year for me in several ways, but the end part has been quite a challenging year in which I’ve come to the conclusion that in order to help save the world and myself, instead of looking to change it, I need to simply submit to both. Being a rather defensive and antagonistic person, I am still coming to terms with this. Having been a nudist for 23 years now, and a vegetarian/vegan on an off for almost as long, I had initially bought philosophies of life purporting…
